Jan's Chunky book pages

Kay, Martha and Beth, some internet friends from Project Pedros encouraged me to start this chunky book made with scraps leftover on my art table at the end of the day. I was hesitant to take on another project, but this is one is without a deadline, without pressure and it has become a real source of relaxation for me.

Because I work in decos I'm always pulling out pictures and ephemera for up to 5 different themes in one day. I'm always up for a challenge and my table ALWAYS has bits and pieces of interesting ephemera all over it, so why not? Everything in this book was found at an arms reach...across the table or on the floor!

Remains of the Day little journal

This little Remains of the Day style Journal measures 4.5"x 5.5" and closes with a wrap around tie. I took an online class from Mary Ann Moss called Remains of the Day. She teaches how to make pages with pockets and places to tuck in pictures or collected ephemera and also has plenty of places to journal.

I've made a couple 8x5" size books and then tried this smaller size to use up some great little scraps of fabric I had on hand.

Works in progress

In January I came across Millande Creativity Club and settled in for some 10 minute art lessons. What a difference it makes to watch someone while they're explaining a concept. Reading directions is not my strong suit. I much rather do show and tell, or in this case, listen and watch.

I bought myself a few supplies and got busy on my 13 week journal project, which I should have started 13 weeks ago, but, well, didn't. I got all my pages finished and mailed and ended up with about 5 pages to trade and created pages for a few topics not on the list. For the first time I used gesso, and gel medium, and I did draw an eye for the anatomy page! On another project I even covered an entire page with black ink and removed the ink with a rubber stamp dipped in bleach...pictures of that when the project is finished.

13 Week Journal Pages

I've been working on a 13 week journal with some girls at SnaggingStampers.com . Our leader, Kay, has been giving us journal prompts each week and then we will trade pages with each other so we all have work done by others in the group. After making my first journal page I knew I couldn't part with it, so I made duplicates to trade. In doing this I realized that the second and third tries at the same thing generated even more and better ideas.

Here are the prompts from Kay (and others) that I've finished so far:

13 point biography
Part of your anatomy
Favorite childhood song
Family (The Princess Diary)
Favorite Scripture/inspirational quote
Doodle your name

Some of these were fun like the doodle your name, but the anatomy was a real challenge, as I do not draw. This is the very first time I even considered that I might study a picture of an eye and try to duplicate it. It was really hard. I'm pretty satisfied for a first time try.
